Throughout the world, a variety of regulations exist for metal concentrations in various forms of water. These regulations are driven by a number of factors, including safety and health concerns, as well as the local geology, which has a large impact on the metal content of the water.
Even within a region/country, the geology and, hence, the composition of the water can vary greatly. As a result, it is impossible for a single set of regulations to cover global water quality.
