Similarly to other ‘omics’ technologies, the field of metabolomics has experienced substantial growth since the beginning of the century. Much of that growth is thanks to technological advances in separation and detection methods.

Equally important is the wide range of potential applications that metabolomics has in other fields. For example, in profiling human health and disease by measuring important metabolites in blood or urine.
