The tumor microenvironment (TME) consists of a complex and dynamic mixture of non-cancerous cells and molecules that surround the cancerous cells that comprise a tumor.
Tumor cells can interact with the non-cancerous cells in the TME, meaning they are able to influence and optimize their surroundings to promote growth, invasion and metastasis.
