Increasingly complex global food chains have led to an escalation in foodborne illnesses and food safety concerns. Industry and governmental bodies have responded by strengthening legislation and regulations to better manage food safety.
By February 2022, the US FDA has agreed to issue a final rule that the testing of imported food and addressing of food safety problems be conducted by laboratories that voluntarily become accredited and must comply with most aspects of ISO 17025.
