Temperature cycling is fundamental to all PCR reactions; precise temperature control by a thermal cycler is crucial for the accuracy and efficiency of the reaction. However, a multitude of thermal cycler instruments exist, each with varying capabilities; this can make it difficult to know which one is best suited to your experiments.

**This series of app notes can help you evaluate published ramp rates, temperature uniformity, and temperature accuracy for leading thermal cycler models, covering key aspects such as:**

- Amplification robustness
- Sample evaporation
- Ramp rate measurement
