For many years, the only available treatment option for cancer patients was removal or cauterization of cancerous tissue. Since then, numerous additional therapeutic strategies have been developed including radio- and chemotherapy. Although these more “traditional” approaches still play a vital role in modern-day treatment of cancer, they are often now used in combination with more innovative approaches including targeted drugs and immunotherapies.
